Starting from September 12, the Botanical Garden in Golden Gate Park was transformed for ten full days into a communal space for music and mingling, with the triumphant return of the Flower Piano event. During Flower Piano, a record 73,000 guests passed through the Garden. Many also turned up at Celebration Garden–dubbed the Flower Piano Lounge for the duration–to listen to an impressive roster of musical artists and, when the pianos were free, make some music themselves.
Tickets to the Flower Piano Lounge granted partiers access to full-service bars, as well as scrumptious food from local favorites and lounging privileges on the luxe outdoor furniture assembled for the occasion. This VIP area played host to special musical guests like Lavay Smith and the Red Hot Skillet Lickers, Martin Luther McCoy & the Robin Hodge Williams Gospel Choir, Sixth Station Trio and more.
In addition to the Lounge, twelve pianos were spread across the 55-acre garden setting, creating an alfresco concert hall that was open to all. Guests of all ages, cultures and levels of expertise delighted onlookers with their personal renditions of piano favorites. Since its inception in 2015, Flower Piano has thrilled Bay Area residents with its whimsy and ingenuity, inviting participants to explore both the Gardens and their own creativity.
