October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Sutter Health’s California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC) celebrated by hosting a party at Bimbo’s 365 Club. Billed as a night of “Comedy and Cocktails,” the event showcased an appearance by comedian, actor and breast cancer survivor Tig Notaro. The evening marked the 20th anniversary of the Notkin Family Program, a pioneering initiative that provides an array of services to women who are undergoing a biopsy or receiving breast cancer treatment at Sutter CPMC.
The subject was serious but the event was a joyous one, with Notaro–who has often spoken publicly about her breast cancer journey–on hand to bring the laughter. VIPs in the audience included Notkin Program co-founders Shelby Notkin and his daughter Michelle Notkin, along with Hamila Kownacki, CEO of CPMC. The Notkin Family Program at CPMC’s Breast Health Center offers comprehensive breast cancer support services, including nurse navigation, individual and group counseling, nutrition advice from a dietician, exercise guidance and post-surgery wellness resources.
“We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to this milestone event,” said Allison Duignan, CPMC Foundation Executive Director. “The funds raised will help us continue offering personalized care that meets the unique needs of women fighting breast cancer through their survivorship.”
