Opera lovers gathered at the War Memorial Opera House on November 18 for an annual event where the partygoers get to take to the stage. San Francisco Opera Guild’s An Evening on the Stage treats attendees to an elegant night of food and live entertainment hosted on the storied Opera House stage. This year’s theme transported the lucky guests to Spain, with food and decor inspired by this season’s production of Carmen.
Celebrations began with a luxe selection of hors d’oeuvres in the lobby, after which theater doors opened so guests could find their seats onstage for dinner and an exciting program. The Spanish-themed decor by J. Riccardo Benavides surrounded diners as they enjoyed Wild Prawn Paella provided by McCalls Catering & Events. The night’s highlight came when the Opera Guild honored The Honorable Nancy Pelosi, Speaker Emerita of the U.S. House of Representatives, and Mr. Paul Pelosi with the prestigious Crescendo Award, for their extraordinary support to the Guild and San Francisco Opera. Funds raised at this year’s event benefit the San Francisco Opera Guild’s music education programs.
