Alonzo King LINES Ballet Annual Gala Celebrates Dance and Community

Alonzo King LINES Ballet is a San Francisco institution, enriching the Bay Area’s cultural life with its performance and education initiatives since 1982. LINES Ballet’s spring gala is the company’s premier annual fundraiser, bringing performing arts lovers from far and wide in support of its valuable mission. This year the gala, held May 17 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, welcomed nearly 400 guests for a night of dance and celebration.

The evening’s performance program featured a world premiere collaboration between choreographer Alonzo King and American jazz trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire, presented alongside King’s iconic Scheherazade, with music reinterpreted by the late Zakir Hussain. The mission and purpose of Alonzo King LINES Ballet is to nurture artistry and the development of creative expression in dance, through collaboration, performance and education. The gala raised over $400,000 in support of this mission.
