October 26 marked the launch of this fall’s flagship exhibit at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA). The museum held a preview for the stunning new exhibit “Making Their Mark: Works from the Shah Garg Collection.” This carefully curated, diverse collection of women artists gave BAMPFA and its supporters plenty to celebrate at the opening day festivities.
The party got started with a brunch and director’s reception for the VIPs–including Komal Shah and Gaurav Garg, whose art collection forms the basis of the exhibition. The day’s main event was the official opening of the show, which art lovers had come from around the Bay Area to see. The exhibit brings together more than 70 works by groundbreaking women. Featuring a wide spectrum of artworks spanning almost eight decades, the exhibition emphasizes dialogues between artists who circumvent and break through conventions by embracing craft techniques and alternative materials. “Making their Mark” is on view at BAMPFA through April 20, 2025.
