San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie and First Lady Becca Prowda were just two of the local luminaries who gathered at the California College of the Art’s expansive new campus on May 21 to show their support for the college, and for the night’s special guest: the Honorable Willie L. Brown, Jr. The night’s festivities were a tribute to the former mayor and California State Assembly Speaker’s enduring legacy of leadership and public service. The annual gala serves as the tentpole fundraiser for CCA’s student scholarship fund.
Dinner, provided by McCalls Catering & Events, was curated to highlight some of Mayor Brown’s favorite dishes, such as caviar and short ribs–all topped off with an ice cream sundae. Other local luminaries who turned up for the festivities included Paul Pelosi, Dagmar Dolby, Carl and Yurie Pascarella and Diane Wilsey. As a public figure, Mayor Brown has been a powerful advocate for public service, social justice and the arts. As CCA President David Howse said that night, “Mayor Willie Brown is a visionary whose leadership and decades of service have helped shape San Francisco into the vibrant city it is today. His commitment to education and creative excellence reflects the core values we uphold at CCA.” This year’s gala raised nearly $1.1 million for CCA’s arts education.
