Children of Shelters Spring Luncheon Benefits Education and Nutrition Programs

On May 14, Children of Shelters hosted its annual Spring Luncheon to raise funds for the services they provide for San Francisco youth experiencing homelessness. The luncheon, held at St, Francis Yacht Club was sponsored by Hudson Grace and Theoni, highlighted the daily impact of Children of Shelters’ work across the city. Event attendees–including San Francisco mayor Daniel Lurie and District 5 Supervisor Bilal Mahmood–heard inspirational stories from partner organizations and advocates, all working to meet the needs of the more than 5,000 San Francisco children currently experiencing homelessness.

Special guest speaker Supervisor Bilal Mahmood represents a district that is home to many of the communities served by Children of Shelters, including the Tenderloin, Hayes Valley, Fillmore and the Western Addition. Of Children of Shelters’ unique service programs Mahmood said, “In neighborhoods like the Tenderloin, where more than one in two families live at or below the poverty line, Children of Shelters helps bridge the gap between survival and stability.” All funds raised at the luncheon will support Children of Shelters as they work to break the cycle of youth poverty.
