San Francisco Ballet School–the oldest professional ballet school in the country–held its annual spring fundraising dinner in the stately lobby of the War Memorial Opera House on May 10. Each year the school’s spring benefit dinner raises funds to support SF Ballet’s scholarship and financial aid program. Guests on that lovely spring evening enjoyed a delightful cocktail reception and elegant multi-course meal.
But first, there was dancing, in the form of a special matinee performed by Ballet School students. The performance marked a significant milestone for SF Ballet School, offering its talented students the opportunity to perform on the same stage that has been home to the world-renowned SF Ballet Company for decades. This year’s Spring Festival performance honored San Francisco Ballet’s history of visionary leadership, featuring works choreographed by past and current artistic directors. Around 70% of San Francisco Ballet dancers are trained at SF Ballet School, and students appear in SF Ballet productions throughout the season. More than $1.5 million in annual scholarships and financial aid is awarded to students to attend SF Ballet School.
