San Francisco’s Davies Symphony Hall was the scene of a holiday tradition for children of all ages: the Symphony’s annual “Deck the Hall,” featuring food, fun and a pair of kid-friendly matinee performances on December 8. With beverage service from Fort Point Beer Co. for the grown-ups, GoGo Squeeze for the little ones and It’s-It ice cream sandwiches for everyone, it was one of the most joyous celebrations of the season so far. Deck the Hall has been part of the San Francisco Symphony’s annual holiday programming since Davies Symphony Hall opened in 1980.
Each year the special concerts provide the perfect introduction to music and dance for the city’s youngest arts lovers, and 2024 was no exception. The one-hour program highlighted the talented young singers of the San Francisco Boys Chorus and the Young Women’s Choral Projects of San Francisco in holiday classics, and featured students from the San Francisco Ballet Training Program in selections from Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. Proceeds from this event support Deck the Hall Community Day, which invites 3,000 children to this holiday concert free of charge, providing many of them with their first opportunity to hear a live orchestral performance.
