On September 26, the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation (TNDC) gathered once more at the Phoenix Hotel for their one-of-a-kind fundraiser, the 32nd annual Pool Toss. It was perfect weather for the six lucky “tossees” to spend some time around the pool–and of course, in it! The tossees arrived decked out in their most outrageous costumes, to take the plunge in support of the youth who are served by TNDC’s Tenderloin After-School Program.
The TNDC is a community of staff, tenants, community members, partners, nonprofits, donors and volunteers working together to build a future with economic and racial equity. From the group’s humble beginnings renovating a single, run-down Single Room Occupancy (SRO) residential hotel in 1981, TNDC has grown to be the largest community-based development corporation in San Francisco.
The 200 guests who gathered at the Phoenix that night raised critical funds to help support TNDC’s invaluable after-school programming, which offers underserved youth a place to play, learn, build leadership skills and build connections with their peers. Open to kids and teens aged 7 to 18, the drop-in program offers educational activities, weekly teen nights and regular field trips. TNDC reached their Pool Toss fundraising goal this year, ensuring that these wonderful services will be available to community kids in the future.
