I want to create a legacy for generations after me and honor those before me.
LP: Your life is so full, how do you manage your home, four children, writing books, and managing your family’s business?
MCM: We are all blessed with a variety of talents and pursuits. I truly feel that we all share a common drive to live a life of purpose. We can all make this world a more beautiful place and teach and learn from one another. That drive is what keeps me going and motivates me to be the best version of myself. My children are my inspiration in everything that I do. Providing a comforting and beautiful space, caring for the children (with my fairy godmother nanny!) and the inspiration behind my new children’s book series, The Traveling Mindfulness Series. As proprietor of my family’s real estate and wine business, I want to create a legacy for generations after me and honor those before me. The common thread woven between all the hats I wear is creativity. I find that when I flex my creative muscle, I am in a flow and in a state of creating which drives me and ultimately brings great joy.
LP: What advice can you give others who want to write children’s books?
MCM: Just start! It’s the hardest part; it’s the scariest part but that long journey truly starts with one baby step. Believe in your work. Share your brilliance with confidence!
I have met so many that have shared with me that they have written a manuscript and have it stowed away for years, or they have ideas and don’t know where to begin. I recommend taking all the random bits of creative energy or words and having one place that you “store” your work-in a short time it becomes something tangible and it’s an amazing feeling when that day comes!
LP: What is the biggest obstacle you’ve overcome?
MCM: Conquering fear and having the bravery to do it anyways! It’s a daily effort. When you feel like you’re going to fail, or you are worried what you are going to look like or sound like, it’s about feeling the fear but doing it anyways. I once climbed a 40-foot telephone poll and jumped off (harnessed of course) for my fear of heights. Scariest thing I ever did, but I did it! and it felt incredible. I asked myself, “What’s next?”
LP: Any words of wisdom for those who are ready to live their lives with passion?
MCM: As a mother of four, living a life of passion requires some selfishness. I have learned that turning inward, creating a more mindful and intentional life results in a more robust and more passionate life; one of great ambition and direction. When we work from our hearts, and pour in our god given gifts, we find the spirit and intensity we may have been searching for all along. It starts from within!
