The San Jose Museum of Art (SJMA) opened its doors to art lovers from around the Bay for its September 21 gala. Held both on the Circle of Palms Plaza and inside the Museum itself, attendees enjoyed a lively celebration of contemporary art, fine food and live entertainment.
Cocktails and canapes were followed by an elegant, seasonal three-course dinner designed by Executive Chef Joe Derla for Signia by Hilton. The night’s program included a live auction and presentations made to two very special honorees. First up, the SJMA Visionary Award presented its inaugural prize to SJMA Trustee and past Board President Glenda Dorchak, in recognition of her many years of support and service to the museum.
The night also featured an honoree: Chitra Ganesh, whose work is well-represented in SJMA’s collection. The Museum recently acquired her work She the Question, a suite of 25 colorful pieces originally published as a comic book.
The funds raised at the 2024 gala Gala will go to support the museum’s community and educational programs, as well as its essential operations. SJMA Executive Director S. Sayre Batton says of the event, “The Gala is an important way to support the Museum and keep it thriving. I thank the Trustees, patrons, donors, staff and volunteers who help make this event possible.”
