After more than a year of closure and facing what looked like an uncertain future, neighborhood gem North Beach Restaurant has reopened–and the local mainstay is once again in good hands. On December 3 new owners Francesco and Monica Covucci, the couple behind Il Casaro, Casaro Osteria, Barbara, and California Fish Market, welcomed back diners eager to enjoy a plate of the famed Pasta Della Casa in the restaurant’s elegantly reimagined dining room.
The festive reopening began with a ribbon cutting, after which guests were treated to cocktails and comfort food like meatballs and antipasto-inspired sliders. San Francisco VIPs, including former SF Mayor Willie Brown and Mayor-elect Daniel Lurie, turned out to toast the historic eatery, first opened in 1970. The return of this stalwart of Italian cuisine was warmly welcomed by the city’s most Italian of neighborhoods. In the words of new owner Francesco Covucci, “The tradition that North Beach Restaurant has created over five decades can’t disappear—it is important to keep the legacy going.”
