San Francisco Hosts July 4 Party for City’s Consular Corps

San Francisco’s historic Maritime Museum was the site of this year’s July 4th party honoring the hard work of our city’s consular corps. National representatives for countries from the Netherlands to Uruguay were on hand to celebrate their host nation’s Independence Day with food, dancing and a front-row seat to the fireworks display over Aquatic Park.

Mayor London Breed headed the VIP list, giving remarks to thank the corps for its work, and to honor the representatives of San Francisco’s Sister City program who were also in attendance.

The San Francisco consular corps is made up of official representatives of foreign countries, designated to provide services similar to those of embassies, such as passport and birth registration services for visiting or resident citizens of the countries they represent. Consulates also engage in cooperative outreach with their host countries, developing business partnerships and academic and artistic exchanges.

The annual July 4th party is the city’s way of saying “thank you” to the consular corps for providing these important services, and celebrating with typical American food and festivities. This year’s event, catered by McCalls, saw guests noshing on typical American fare like fried chicken, blueberry cobbler and a luscious white cheddar mac and cheese. Guests ended the night on a high note, gathering on the Maritime Museum balcony to enjoy a prime viewing spot for the fireworks, accompanied by music from DJ Hey Love.
