Celebrating Two Decades of Compassionate Fundraising for George Mark Children’s House
For 20 years, students at Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton, California, have shown how small actions can create a big difference. Through their Mr. Amador program, they’ve raised $516,983 for George Mark Children’s House (GMCH)—the first pediatric palliative care home in the United States, and their services are free to every patient and family. This incredible effort proves that even high schoolers have the power to change lives and bring hope to families in need.

Mr. Amador is more than a fundraiser—it’s a movement. Each year, healthy high school boys dedicate their time to raising funds for GMCH, a unique sanctuary filled with love, joy, and hope for children with life-limiting illnesses and their families. The highlight of the program is the highly anticipated April show, where the student who raises the most funds is crowned Mr. Amador.

“The dedication of Amador Valley High School students is truly inspiring and makes a tangible difference in the lives of the children and families we serve,” says Shekinah Eliassen, CEO of George Mark Children’s House.
A visit to George Mark Children’s House reveals a world of comfort and care that challenges the limitations so often imposed by serious medical diagnoses. Children enjoy music reverberating through bright, welcoming spaces, art projects that bring creativity to life, and even the occasional visit from ponies that ignite smiles broader than words can express.

“Mr. Amador is more than just a fundraiser; it’s a life-changing experience for our students, teaching them compassion and the importance of giving back,” reflects Jennifer Zuanich, Mr. Amador Advisor and teacher at Amador Valley High School.
This event empowers students to connect deeply with their community, illustrating firsthand how their efforts create ripples of positive change.

Each dollar raised holds the promise of joy, dignity, and comfort for the children at GMCH—whether it’s offering them quality time with loved ones, a reprieve from hospital lights, or magical moments in a nurturing environment. Since its inception, Mr. Amador exemplifies what it means to use action and generosity to transform lives.

Members of the media are invited to attend this year’s Mr. Amador show. Witness the boundless creativity and compassion of these students as they rally for an incredible cause. For those curious to see the magic of GMCH firsthand, visits can be arranged to explore this sanctuary where love never ends.
