The San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus (SFGMC) hosted its annual benefit gala on April 5 at the Westin St. Frances, treating its guests to a star-studded evening of music and community. Hosted by drag superstar Nina West, the annual fundraiser is also an awards ceremony and this year SFGMC honored two bright lights of the entertainment world. Broadway icon and Hollywood legend Sheryl Lee Ralph along with TV and stage star and TransTech founder Angelica Ross were both honored for their LGBTQIA+ advocacy and allyship.
Ms. Ralph received the Nancy Pelosi Ally Award for her decades of HIV/AIDS advocacy, and Ross was given the Trailblazer Award for pioneering work on Transgender and racial equality. The gala evening also featured energizing performances from the Chorus, who sang old and new favorites like the Wizard of Oz-themed Somewhere Over The Rainbow/Defying Gravity mashup. Guests also witnessed moving testimonials on the power of SFGMC performances and outreach, and an exciting auction, all helping raise critical funds for the Chorus’s mission to champion equality and spread joy through music.
